Margaret Lyu

PIANO

Margaret began playing the piano at age 5 and started winning major competitions at age 7. She won top prizes in numerous competitions in Korea including the grand prize in the prestigious Ewha competition. She was accepted to the prestigious Yewon Arts Middle School at the top of her class and attended for a year before coming to NYC by herself to study at the Juilliard School. 

When she was 15, she was chosen to perform at the Lincoln Center to perform Saint-Saens Piano Concerto No.2 with the Juilliard Orchestra.

While earning her B.M. degree at Juilliard, she won many competitions including the Juilliard Concerto Competition, the Arnold Bullock Competition, and the Ima Hogg Competition.  She performed with numerous orchestras as a soloist including the Seattle Symphony Orchestra at the McCaw Hall where she received a full house standing ovation. Following her performance, the Seattle Times raved about it calling her a rising star with impeccable technical virtuosity and artistry.

Margaret also gave numerous recitals at major concert venues in Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Austria, and throughout the US.

Her performances were broadcast on Korean national TV and Radio, on Hong Kong national TV and Radio several times. 

She taught at the Indian Hill Music Center and Rutgers Mason Gross Extension Division as a piano faculty. She is an active musician who also serves as a music director at a local church and collaborates with other musicians for regular performances.
